Those already in the workforce who are OHS specialists, human resources specialists who have responsibility for OHS or OHS consultants seeking to gain a high level of competence or to formalise their qualifications in OHS.

DURATION

The Diploma of Occupational health and Safety comprises of 8 Units of competency: 5 OHS units and 3 electives

ASSESSMENT

Learning occurs both off-the-job and on-the-job. There are work based projects and assignments that participants complete in their own time. Participants are expected to apply in the workforce what they learn in the course and be able to demonstrate they meet the competency standards through assessment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety will provide training for people who have an interest in or aspire to work as OHS Specialist or OHS Managers. The course outcomes for this group will provide for the acquisition of in-depth knowledge in areas of

  • System design and development
  • Risk management
  • Incident investigation
     

AWARD

Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety will be awarded to those who successfully complete all 8 Units; 5 OHS units and 3 electives and complete assessment projects and meet the requirements for AQF Level 5.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Some training course participants may apply for recognition of competencies (skills and knowledge) that they already possess, for the whole course or any part. Participants who receive RPL need not undertake the respective course. Where RPL is granted, the participant is given full equivalent status as participants who successfully complete the course.
