New version of Fair Work Information Statement
Employers have to give new employees a Fair Work Information Statement as soon as practicable after they start work. The statement was recently updated to include the amount of the high income threshold, which is the cut off point for an employee to be covered by a modern award.
The old version of the statement didn't set out the actual dollar amount, which is currently $113 800 per annum and is indexed annually on 1 July.
The Fair Work Information Statement is a fact sheet that sets out an employee’s rights and entitlements at work, including the national employment standards (NES), modern awards, agreement making, freedom of association and workplace rights, termination of employment, right of entry and the role of Fair Work Australia (FWA). Its purpose is to give employees advice about where to go for information and help, as well as providing contact details for FWA.
Employers have been required to give the information sheet to all new employees from 1 January 2010. However, you don't have to give the statement sheet to an employee more than once in any 12 month period where you employ someone more than once in the 12 month period (e.g. a casual employee).
