Workplace Regulation
Employers have to contend with more legislation than any other group in society. With over 50 different Acts of Parliament, plus their regulations, employers face more compliance requirements than hospitals, schools and prisons. Every employer is expected to know, understand and comply with this legislation – ignorance is no defence.
For many businesses, particularly small businessess, employment laws and workplace regulation generate their largest operating expense through labour costs and are their greatest compliance concern. Irrespective of size or level of sophistication, every employer needs expert help at some time in dealing with the increasingly complex and ever-changing web of workplace regulation.
This is abundantly clear to us here at AFEI through our daily work with employers of all sizes and across most industries. It is also clear to us that most businesses do not have the time or resources to understand or deal effectively with regulatory issues. Regulatory compliance is a key issue in business risk management, yet managing compliance effectively is difficult to achieve except in organisations with considerable reources to devote specifically to this task.
Given the volume and complexity of regulation, without expert help it is virtually impossible for employers to fully comply.
There’s no shortage of organisations eager to provide business advisory services, but there are only a handful with expert skills in all the different areas of employment law and workplace regulation. Of these, AFEI is the only organisation which specialises in providing compliance advice and information to employers and in representing your interests.
Our role is to:
- keep you up-to-date on any changes in workplace regulation
- explain how it applies to you and the likely consequences for your operations
- provide you with the means of avoiding many of the regulatory traps
- help you manage regulatory issues proactively as well as dealing with the issues which inevitably arise
- help you improve your business performance.
We know that staying on top of compliance requirements is an essential part of the day-to-day responsibilities of running a successful business. Through the AFEI Workplace Hotline, our website, publications and training we can help you better manage your regulatory burden.
